Last weekend I had dinner with a dear friend of mine who was visiting London from Milan. Benedetta and I went to university together and she now works at Missoni. The occasion was very joyful because Benedetta and I do not get much time together besides a few hurried words before or after their fashion shows. I also got to meet her husband, Federico. Interestingly enough, Federico’s grandfather, opened one of the first Missoni store in Italy in the late 60’s.
These coincidences made me think about the history of the Missoni’s ; Tai and Rosita became a family in 1953 and their three children Vittorio, Luca and Angela, grew up in an environment strongly influenced by their parents work.
One more coincidence then came out over dinner; Vittorio worked at Browns to get some retail experience in the early 70’s.
One has to admire the Missoni concept, blending craftsmanship with high technology and aesthetic innovation with the development of form that continues to enchant and thrill people everywhere.
Today Missoni is one of the most widely respected ambassadors of Italian luxury and design around the world.
